MY FIRST CHRISTMAS IN MEXICO

MY FIRST CHRISTMAS IN MEXICO

On the 23rd of December Hotel Perico had a Christmas party for all of its long term residents. I had made cards to give to everyone and for the children we bought little gifts. The spread was full of different kinds of vegetables along with the main course; ham. Of course with our home program we can only have organic, therefore I brought our own food. I had made spaghetti with pesto sauce. I added black olives and fresh basil with other spices. To top it off I used melted goat cheese.

A peaceful hush falls over the world…

When this holiday rush is through…

It’s time to reflect on family and friends…

And so I think of you…

It’s a time to send our greetings…

To those who are far and near…

To wish you the blessings of the season…

Not just today but throughout the year…

We pause and think of this special time…

A time that is set apart…

For thinking of those who are dear…

Who hold a special place in our heart…

For desert the hotel residents brought all kinds of cakes and pies. During the day I had gone to the Monday market and purchased a fruit cake from my gluten free vender. I cut it in small squares and dressed the plate using strawberries, blueberries and blackberries. Also, prior to the evening I made up some dates with pecan chips on top.

Here are some pictures of our wonderful holiday party with our new friends that we met here in our community. I thank Tom and Jan for making this Christmas a warm and cozy one.

Christmas has come and gone. I hope you had an amazing one. Our first Christmas went smoothly and was very peaceful. The only thing that I missed was my family and friends. Thank goodness for skype and the phone.

Christmas Day Dan and I decided to go to Chapala to hear our neighbor sing. He and his father was suppose to sing at the Black Pearl, but was not there, so we just walked along the boardwalk of the lake. Lots of people were out enjoying the winter day and spending quality time with their loved ones.

While walking we came across an outside restaurant / hotel looking over the water. We looked at one another and stated why not just relax there and have some salmon. So for lunch we shared a salmon platter with rice and fruit. To top it off we had some Mexican coffee and then took a cab home.

Upon arriving we turned on some Christmas music and opened a bottle of wine. I prepared a turkey dinner and mashed potatoes with gravy. For the greens I made a salad with all the trimmings.

Enjoy the rest of 2013 and peace be with all.

A MEXICAN ELVIS (Dec 21st)

A MEXICAN ELVIS
The other night Dan and I took a stroll down memory lane. We get the local news paper, Guadalajara Reporter. This paper is all in English and displays all the happenings around this location.

There was an ad for a Christmas special at the local Casino giving you a show and 500 points. It’s a celebration for me, since it has been three years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I’m still alive. It is a blessing and I’m so humble for being able to have made the right choice.

Now, it is time to get back to Elvis. You know the saying, “ELVIS IS IN THE BUILDING‘. The music, lights and the moves made the night. We were both relaxed and enjoyed a glass of wine just listening to the sounds of years past.

Dan and I did do a little bit of gambling. It’s pretty awesome; we go to this cashier and register by giving them ID, which in return a self picture is taken. After, standing in line and doing the standard procedure I received a card. The card is the most important detail to the Casino; it’s what shows your winnings. Dan and I are big spenders; we only put $15.00 dollars on each card, plus what they gave us which came to $20.00.

I enjoyed the evening on nickel slot machines and we were there for two hours. We won and lost but overall we broke even. I left feeling real good about myself and for Dan a cheap date. The neat thing about the whole night was the card. It’s like a credit card, what you put on it you can go back as often as you want and reuse it. You can add money to it and keep it on. So we left with $15.00 for next time. HAHAHA

I’m going to end with a video from the ELVIS show; it was real dark so please excuse the quality of the movie.

Until next time have a Merry Christmas.

OUR NEIGHBORS (Dec 20th)

OUR NEIGHBORS

Next door to our place there is a corn field. After the harvest, the owner brought his horses over to feed on the stalks. In only a couple of days the natural plowing had been completed. Only in Mexico!!!!

During the Christmas Holiday I took a few snapshots on and back from our walks to the organic markets. Here are pictures of the sites around Ajijic.

Enjoy the holidays; we are all blessed with the nature and wonders that surrounds us. Take this time to go out and explore something new near your own home. You may be surprised of what you may discover. Find the beauty in Christmas and give yourself a gift from nature.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

FULL MOON ( Dec. 18th)

FULL MOON

Tonight strolling along the property of Hotel Perico looking up there was a full moon. The whole sky lit up around us, viewing downward at the city with the glow of peace and wonder. As I give thanks for the wealth of my health, I’m enjoying the beauty that I have been exploring here in Ajijic.

A full moon is the lunar phase that occurs when the Moon is completely illuminated as seen from the Earth. This occurs when the Moon is in opposition with the sun when it's on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun; more precisely, when the ecliptic longitudes of the Sun and Moon differ by 180 degrees.

TO WISH YOU THE BLESSINGS OF THE SEASON

Who hold a special place in our heart…

Believe in the magic of the season…

May the love of God warm your hearts…

May you forever cherish the memory …

And what this season imparts…

It is not the gifts that are wrapped…

And placed under the Christmas Tree…

But the Christmas that lives within our hearts…

That is special to you and me…

MUCH LOVE SHERRY AND DAN
