This past week started a new celebration here in Chapala and Ajijic, Mexico. This is the first Halloween in Mexico that Dan and I will experience.. We strolled along the streets of Chapala and on the river walk they had figures of Catrinas, one of the most popular figures of the Day of the Dead. I had to take pictures of them which I tried to capture in detail.




                     



                    

Then off we went to Ajijic where they had Zombies dancing to Michael Jackson’s song THRILLER. It was amazing to see the people, old and young dress up like zombies and dance.

Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. It is particularly celebrated in Mexico, where the day is a bank holiday. The celebration takes place on October 31, November 1 and November 2, in connection with the Christian triduum of Hallowmas: All Hallows' Eve, All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars called ofrendas honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts. They also leave possessions of the deceased.

Scholars trace the origins of the modern Mexican holiday to indigenous observances dating back hundreds of years and to an Aztec festival dedicated to the goddess Mictecacihuatl. The holiday has spread throughout the world: In Brazil Dia de Finados is a public holiday that many Brazilians celebrate by visiting cemeteries and churches. In Spain there are festivals and parades, and, at the end of the day, people gather at cemeteries and pray for their dead loved ones. Similar observances occur elsewhere in Europe, and similarly themed celebrations appear in many Asian and African cultures,

Our daughter and boyfriend are coming Friday to enjoy the end of the Festivals with us. I am excited for this will be her first time visiting with us here in Mexico. More to come!!!!!!

We were invited to Laura’s Market Café to enjoy the day with some venders that we catch on regular basis. But, before we showed, Dan had to get blood work. We had a great time seeing everyone, see video.

After, we decided to explore the town of Ajijic by going to the lake and strolling along the boardwalk. Today was an awesome day for the weather in the 70’s.


　

　
Living in Mexico is our dream and in two weeks our daughter and her boyfriend will pay us a visit. I am excited and planning to share our new journey with them.

WRITING FROM THE HEART

It’s been nearly a half a year since I moved to Mexico and never have we looked back at the decisions Dan and I made. It was the right choice for us! The atmosphere and way of life suits our healing process. There is less stress for we are able to meet our expenses and take our supplements. The other day I had my lab works done, checking my cancer markers and keeping up with my health. When I received them back from the laboratory, I e-mailed them to my doctor in Tijuana. He called and went over them and stated everything looks good. I feel blessed that I was being able to select the type of treatment other than conventional. It paid off!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it hurts me to see so many still suffering. The knowledge I gained the past three years makes me want to shout out to every one; stop and think how did this start. There is a reason and the first place to look is in our lifestyles. The foods we eat and the chemicals we use. We need to be more careful on how we guide our bodies. Let's take a moment and honor the ones that are struggling from this terrible disease and hope as a nation to realize that we have to stand together.

I've been real busy with editing my book. This is a challenge for I was not one for grammar. I wish to thank this program I am using http://prowritingaid.com for it has helped me become a better writer. I feel this story must be told, we need to hear that there's hope and it's not far from us. It is right around the corner open up your ears and listen to what is out there. We are a drop but together we are an ocean.

ART IN MEXICO

Art fills our world with emotions. The color and shapes form the vision in our minds of what we see. Two people may look at the same piece and get a different meaning from it.

This is why it's called art, it's your imagination that is creating your like or dislikes.

Being in Mexico I am seeing the beauty and talents of the culture within the land using creativity from even a simple item, such as a flower or a boat. These artists are everyday on the side of the roads or sidewalks making these pieces for one to enjoy. It’s amazing to be part of this fine artistic world.

In Ajijic there was this person that carved a tree and designed a canvas of a master art object. Look at the start of his creation to the final piece. I was blown away with the talent of people here.

 

 

Savor some of the work that is done by the local Mexican’s, with imagination and use of all the colors and shapes.
