COVER OF THE BOOK

I wrote a book not only about the bad word CANCER, but something more dear to all; LIFE.  The book contains four years of research and knowledge, however; I wanted it to be about choice, inspiration and hope.

The reason this means so much is that I told my personal thoughts and feelings throughout four years of healing myself naturally with Functional Medicine.  My family was also part of this book and without them it would not be what it is.

My daughter wrote a piece in it that expresses the feelings and thoughts of a child whose parent is diagnosed with an illness.  It’s real and part of LIFE.  I wanted my daughter to be part of this adventure for I wanted her to share this along with my husband Dan the rainbow that has the pot of gold at the end.  By doing this she drew and designed the cover of the book.  This is the first thing that someone looks at and I knew that her feelings would come out onto paper.  We are a unit and I could have not made it without her strength.  Check out her web site at other designs and work that shows her thoughts and love for art http://www.daniliz.com/  I am so proud of my girl.

Another reason why the book is special, my husband and mother also write verses.  I wanted people to see that this disease affects not just the person, but the whole family.

Last but not least, I was able to express some of my thoughts into poems.  I wanted to be able to reach people by art through poetry.  I also added many you tube sites of my adventures visiting my daughter and friends along with my husband going through the same treatment program.

So this is not something that I just put together regarding CANCER, but also feelings and emotions of my LIFE managing cancer.  I placed my heart and soul in this project hoping everyone can get something out of it.

Enjoy life and remember Knowledge is power.

BOOK REVIEW HERE IN AJIJIC MEXICO

Book Review

On January the 21st, I had my very first book review at Oasis Cloud.  I would like to take the moment to thank Duane and Mary Ann for allowing to share my passion with the community.  The luncheon was a success, I enjoyed the group of people that came for they all had an open mind and allowed me to talk about other options that are out there regarding cancer and how to manage it.  It’s all about your lifestyle and how to gain knowledge.  Education is power!!!!!

I was overwhelmed with joy for the audience got involved and asked a lot of questions, which made my standing in front of them much easier.

Thanks go out to the person that introduced me, my husband and soul mate.  What better person to open up my book review then with the person that knows me inside and out.

I would also like to thank Emma for reading a part from the book that my daughter wrote.  I wanted a child of a parent to read this so as to show the feelings of what a mother and daughter goes through when coping with cancer.  Also, thank her parents Mark and Renee for their support along with Mike.

Overall I felt very humbled to be able to tell my experience and all about Functional Medicine.

Enjoy the pictures that Dan took that day.….

Gun Violence in U.S. Cities Compared to the Deadliest Nations in the World

"We can't put this off any longer," President Obama implored the nation last week as he introduced 23 executive actions designed to reduce gun violence in America. While the United States has the highest level of gun ownership per capita in the world, its rate of gun homicides, about three per 100,000 people, is far lower than that of Honduras, the country with the world's highest gun homicide rate (roughly 68 gun murders per 100,000 people). But America's homicide rate varies significantly by city and metro area, as I pointed out here at Cities a few weeks ago.
The map below compares the rate of gun murders in American cities to nations around the world. Building upon Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data used in that post, Zara Matheson of the Martin Prosperity Institute compiled additional data from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and other sources collated by The Guardian. (While international crime data suffer from significant reporting and comparison issues, homicide data is more reliable. As the Urban Institute's John Roman points out, it is the one type of crime that is "hard to fake" and also most likely to be reported.)
The pattern is staggering. A number of U.S. cities have gun homicide rates in line with the most deadly nations in the world.
  • If it were a country, New Orleans (with a rate 62.1 gun murders per 100,000 people) would rank second in the world.
  • Detroit's gun homicide rate (35.9) is just a bit less than El Salvador (39.9).
  • Baltimore's rate (29.7) is not too far off that of Guatemala (34.8).
  • Gun murder in Newark (25.4) and Miami (23.7) is comparable to Colombia (27.1).
  • Washington D.C. (19) has a higher rate of gun homicide than Brazil (18.1).
  • Atlanta's rate (17.2) is about the same as South Africa (17).
  • Cleveland (17.4) has a higher rate than the Dominican Republic (16.3).
  • Gun murder in Buffalo (16.5) is similar to Panama (16.2).
  • Houston's rate (12.9) is slightly higher than Ecuador's (12.7).
  • Gun homicide in Chicago (11.6) is similar to Guyana (11.5).
  • Phoenix's rate (10.6) is slightly higher than Mexico (10).
  • Los Angeles (9.2) is comparable to the Philippines (8.9).
  • Boston rate (6.2) is higher than Nicaragua (5.9).
  • New York, where gun murders have declined to just four per 100,000, is still higher than Argentina (3).
  • Even the cities with the lowest homicide rates by American standards, like San Jose and Austin, compare to Albania and Cambodia respectively.
Yes, it's true we are comparing American cities to nations. But most of these countries here have relatively small populations, in many cases comparable to large U.S. metros.
The sad reality is that many American cities have rates of gun homicides comparable to the some of the most violent nations in the world.

Yesterday at Hotel Perico ~ Celebration of Kings Day in Mexico

Día de Reyes:

January 6th is Three Kings Day in Mexico, known as the Día de Reyes. This is Epiphany on the church calendar, the 12th day after Christmas, when the Magi arrived bearing gifts for baby Jesus. In Mexico children receive gifts on this day, brought by the three kings, los Reyes Magos, Melchor, Gaspar, and Baltazar. Some children receive gifts from both Santa Claus and the Kings, but Santa is seen as an imported custom, and the traditional day for Mexican children to receive gifts is January 6.

Arrival of the 3 Kings:

In the days preceding Kings Day children write letters to the Magi requesting a toy or gift that they would like. On the night of January 5th, the figures of the Wise Men are placed in the nativity scene. Traditionally children would leave out their shoes with a bit of hay in them to feed the animals of the Magi (they are often shown with a camel). When the children would wake up in the morning their gifts appeared in place of the hay. Nowadays, like Santa Claus, the Kings tend to place their gifts under the Christmas tree.
Rosca de Reyes:

On Kings Day it is customary to eat Rosca de Reyes, a sweet bread shaped like a wreath, with candied fruit on top, and a figurine of a baby Jesus baked inside. The person who finds the figurine is expected to host a party on Día de la Candelaria (Candlemas), celebrated on February 2nd, when tamales are served.
